Dove Recovery Art

About Dove Recovery Art, and Dana Overland the artist.

At Dove Recovery Art, every piece begins in pain — and ends in hope. I live with trigeminal neuralgia, often called the “suicide disease.” The pain is indescribable, but art gave me a way to survive it. And now, it’s my mission to turn that pain into beauty, not just for me — but for anyone walking through battles. I see you.

I’ve learned that life doesn’t break in clean lines. It cracks in quiet moments: when someone you love isn’t who you thought they were… when you have to start over… when you stare at a ceiling fan wondering how you got here.

I’ve felt heartbreak so deep it left bruises on my heart and my body. I’ve known the ache of betrayal, the weight of grief, and the silence of chronic pain that leaves you stuck in bed, wondering if anyone understands.

But I also know hope.

I know what it feels like to choose to stand up, pick up a brush, and paint the feelings words can’t hold.

My art is made of those moments — messy, raw, glittering with pain and beauty. Every piece tells a story. On the back of each painting, I leave the secret part: the part I was afraid to say out loud… until now.

Each piece I create is a moment — turning agony into something meaningful. Every brushstroke carries more than color; it carries truth, surrender, hope, gratitude emerging from exhaustion. Healing through nature. Silence to safety. Softness into strength. Grief into glitter.

Every original painting includes a hidden story — handwritten and sealed on the back. These stories are exclusive to the person who owns the art. You’ll never find them posted online. They’re raw, intimate, and sacred. Like a whispered truth only meant for you.

Not perfect. Not polished. Just real.

But this isn’t about the suffering. It’s about what happens after.

If you’ve ever rebuilt yourself from scraps… if you’ve ever loved someone who didn’t choose you… if you’ve ever sat in the dark and promised yourself you’d keep going — this space is for you.

Follow my blog, where I share the stories: behind the paintings, adventures of Nicky, and the stories behind me.

Because pain doesn’t have to end in darkness — sometimes, it shimmers. Even pain glitters… when you hold it right.

Every piece sold supports the Facial Pain Association and Facial Pain Research Foundation in hopes for a cure for Trigeminal Neuralgia.
