🌸 Sunday Shenanigans with Nicky 🌸

🐾 Nicky's Sunday Bone Ritual 🐾

Sundays in our house are sacred. Not just because it's a reset day or because we do our big cleaning, and preparing for the week (although we do, and it's very serious business)... but because of The Bone.

If Nicky has been a good girl all week—and let's be real, she usually is—then Sunday means it's time for her special bone.

Not just any bone. Oh no. We're talking about a massive hind hock, a bone so big we drive all the way to Meriden to get them. It's bigger than her head. It's prehistoric. It's our treasure. For Nicky these are “I am being rewarded for being so good” treasures.. and I call these “Mommy needs a break” treasures.

This morning, after a week of being a very polite little gremlin, Nicky got her reward. She trotted around the apartment like she’d won an Olympic medal. She showed it to every room. She parked herself in her favorite spot and went into full bone-mode: paws curled, eyes focused, soul at peace.

Meanwhile, I decorated the spring tree while she supervised, occasionally giving me side-eye like, “You missed a flower ornament, peasant.” She was feeling herself.

I love this ritual. Not just because it's cute, but because it's part of our rhythm. Nicky gets to feel proud. I get to smile (and relax a bit). And there’s something beautiful about watching her joy so purely and fully lived. It reminds me to make space for rewards, for softness, and for celebration.

Because honestly? We’re all just trying to be good enough to earn our Sunday bone.

With Love,

Dana & Nicky

Dana Overland, Artist & Founder of Dove Recovery Art

I paint emotions. Not places, not things — but all the messy, beautiful, gut-wrenching, glittering feelings we carry. My art was born from survival: after years battling chronic pain, deep grief, and trauma, I found healing in watercolor and mixed media. Every piece I create is a surrender, a whispered prayer, and a story hidden in color and texture.

Through Dove Recovery Art, I turn pain into something soft and luminous — because even pain glitters when you hold it right. My work explores trauma, recovery, and the quiet power of starting over. Proceeds from my art help others on the same path: funding recovery efforts, community support, and creative healing spaces.

I believe art isn’t just something to look at; it’s something to feel, to carry, to heal with. Welcome to my world — where broken things become beautiful.
